Beliefs

Are Your Beliefs Empowering or Limiting?

The Elephant is the most powerful land mammal on Earth. Weighing up to 8 tonnes and standing as high as thirteen feet tall. With the ability to run 40 mph with that weight it proves its magnificence. It can carry up to 10 tonnes and is strong enough to rip branches off a tree. Despite its enormous power and strength, the elephant can be chained.

How can such a mighty beast be chained? If it can easily rip branches off a tree, a mere chain – no matter how strong would not have the ability to keep an elephant chained up. Yet to my surprise I learnt that the chain is a small one: a small chain fastened to a metal collar around the elephant’s foot is attached to a wooden peg nailed to the ground. This holds the elephant so strongly that it doesn’t ever struggle to break free.

Doesn’t make sense does it…….?

It’s simple – the chaining process started when the elephant was just a baby. In fact, a chain isn’t even needed. A simple rope will be just as effective. The baby elephant will initially struggle but will eventually resign to the fact that it can’t break the rope and even worse, if it continues to do so, the rope will cause a painful burn on its leg. This magnificent powerful beast accepts the limits imposed on it by the chain or rope as permanent and there is no use struggling against it.

Although the elephant grows up to become the most powerful land mammal on Earth, the chains remain in its mind and so the chains on its legs are never removed.

That’s pretty powerful and thought-provoking.

God mentions ‘Indeed We have created the human being in the best of forms’. Whether we look at the human being’s physical construction or consider the human potential, or the human soul and mind, we get a profound glimpse of God’s wisdom and the greatest gift to mankind.

Just how great is this human potential?

Dr Alexander Rich, professor of Biophysics at M.I.T., has estimated our central nervous system contains from 10-100 million cells, each of which has a storage capacity equal to that of a large computer. If his estimates are even close to being correct, it would imply that the human mind has the capacity to store all of the known information in the world – with room to spare!

Other specialists in the field of human creativity are similarly convinced that all people have unchartered reservoirs of untapped potential, locked up within the confines of their incredible minds. Dr.W.Ross Addey, of the Space Biology Laboratory of the Brain Research Institute at the U.C.L.A. , has said that “The ultimate creative capacity of your brain may be, for all practical purposes, infinite.” One must conclude, therefore, the more a person delves into the potential of the human being, the more that person will become aware of how great he or she truly is; and the more that person becomes aware of his or her own potential, the easier it will be to build images of ideas or things which they never even contemplated up until the present time.’

You were Born Rich – Bob Proctor

As we go through life, especially the formative years of our lives, our immediate environment with our parents, caregivers and our teachers play a crucial role in the beliefs which are instilled in our minds.

An environment that is full of love, praise, optimism, encouragement and hope develops within you certainty and inner self-confidence that you can be, do and have anything that you focus your attention on and ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

On the reverse, an environment that is full of fear, worry, pessimism, life is hard, a test and struggle put chains on our minds that limit our infinite potential. We go through life in fear, not trying out anything new, fearful about what the future holds, in a state of constant stress and anxiety.

If we cease to question these beliefs, these hidden shackles on our minds, we will fail to live the way God intended us to live. He gave us our higher faculties – reason, perception, intuition, the will and our creative imagination and like a playwright once said – anything else can be found in a pig or a horse.

The human being, however, has been given these faculties so they can exercise them and achieve the greatness that we were intended to experience while in this physical realm.

God didn’t create us with fears – life programmed that into us. If we truly believe God is the ultimate Protector, He is the ultimate Provider, He is the One, who opens doors for us that we didn’t know existed – then why do we hold fear. Are we thus sub-consciously negating His attributes of perfection?

On a final note, ‘He who knows himself, knows his Lord’.

The beginning of knowing your Creator, therefore, is getting to know you and what beliefs you are holding. They may not show up on a conscious level but your outward behaviours will be a reflection of what beliefs are controlling your life from behind the curtain of the sub-conscious mind. The Elephant has not been given the ability to question this. We do, which is why we are the highest form of His creation.
